More Counselling, Less Weapons
It is not known what the quiet killer Adam Lanza was thinking when he shot so many young children in their Sandy Hook school. If access to psychiatric care was as widespread as access to assault rifles Adam and his dozens of victims may well be alive this Christmas.

12 Days of Christmas
I am very proud of all the kids at church who did a great job in putting together an alternative 12 days of Christmas play.

Trophy for Consistent Non-attendance
Somehow I had ended up on the mailing list of the a bunch of Melbourne cyclists known as the "Old Salopians". They turned out to be a rather persistent bunch who kept inviting me to join their trips despite me living on the other side of the world and not owning one of those bicycle things. It took a lot of emails from me before their members stopped badgering me to join them and agreed to "leave the poor chap alone". It was with great surprise and a small touch of pride that I later heard th...

Was Steve Jobs One of the Greatest Engineers
In a recent survey of 900 British engineering graduates that was carried out by General Electric Steve Jobs was voted the third greatest engineer of all time (after Isambard Kingdom Brunel and James Dyson). I found it rather surprising that he ranks higher than engineering greats such as Thomas Edison, Nikola Tesla and Henry Ford. Jobs was undoubtedly an exceptionally good businessman and marketeer but can he be considered a genius engineer? I would think his engineering partner Steve Wozniak...

Coolest CV?
I've seen a lot of original CVs (resumes created as infographics seem to work particularly well) but my favourite so far is Brian Moose's film story concept that he used to try for a job at Pixar. As far as I can tell it has not landed him a job there yet but what a unique effort.

Always on the Go
Great article by @TonySchwartz about how always being on the go can cause us to loose perspective.

Nine Things Successful People Do
It is encouraging to see that I am putting most of these habits into practice already but the thing that stood out to me from this article is not tempting fate as I often want to take on a lot of exciting projects at once.

Linkedin Value
Linkedin is now worth $8.9bn. That's an amazing $89 per user. It reminds me of when Microsoft bought Hotmail for a lot of $ per user. Let's see if they go after Linkedin while they are on a spending binge.

Airport Parking
Got back from holiday to find that airport car park had taken our car for a 38 mile spin while we were away.

Thinks NHS administrators are not in tune with staff. NHS Borders have given their staff a whole extra 15 minutes extra off work for their years of hard work.

Fair Trade for Who?
Just read this article which argues that FairTrade is not the only way to ethically buy coffee, indeed it seems to be an expensive way to buy poor quality coffee that benefits industry much more than farmers.

Ouch! Watch what happens when the BBC News 24 interview the wrong person about Apple winning the latest legal battle. Top marks for remaining cool under pressure.

The World Cup in One City
Even as a non-supporter of anyone who plays their sport on land I can't help be intrigued by the introduction to my wee brother's project at The World Cup in One City.
